Artist Statement

I have been interested in psychology from an early age. Having parents that worked as analytical-hypnotherapists meant that human behaviours, memory and the mind were topics that were frequently discussed.

This initial interest in psychology has developed over the years and I am currently particularly interested in human interaction. Inspired by talking as a form of therapy I am interested in obtaining memories from the past of friends, family and in particular my father.

Through the use of the autobiographical element as a narrative pacing along side the physical performance, the viewer becomes caught up in this self absorbing act. I am intrigued by the idea of the second innocence and signifying this in my work. Through the uses of visuals, the endless peeling of the skin, I am highlighting to the viewer the impossibility of going back to that state of innocence. Looking back on our experiences we can not help but analyse and reflect on the past and how it has affected us. We can not unlearn what we have learnt.
